Hi, it’s Sam here.

Writing to you with some big news!!! News that is bittersweet. And exciting. And a little scary. But news that Mike and I feel is important to share with our present and future couples.

This is a really vulnerable post, and a little scary to share. But here goes.

The past year has been a wild ride for us, not just because of all the craziness that the pandemic caused in the wedding industry and all our lives, but also because we have grown a lot as people.

One of the things that I’ve come to realize over this past year is that *deep breath* I’m actually gay.

Okay, now that that’s out there, you probably have questions. Like…

Wait, what about your marriage to Mike?

When people say to marry your best friend, I really did that. Mike is my absolute best friend (and he still is!!). However, we’ve decided to separate so we can each live our most authentic lives.

I don’t regret a second of our marriage. I’m forever grateful for all the ups and downs, the moments in-between, the laughter, the heartaches, everything we shared as husband and wife. I know Mike feels the same.

And if me realizing I’m gay after all this time just makes zero sense to you…trust me, I felt that too…and you want to understand what I’m going through more, the best resource I can send you to is this video because I relate to so much of what she says, especially towards the second half of the video. What does this mean for our wedding photography experience?

We know that if we were planning a wedding, hired a husband & wife photo team, and then got news that they were ending their marriage…we’d have concerns. So we want to address those here for you juuuust in case!

Let me first start by saying this:

Mike and I are still the best of friends. We still love each other, support each other, and have no plans to stop working together as wedding photographers. NOTHING is changing about us as a photography team or for our couples!

Mike has honestly been my biggest support through all of these realizations and while coming to terms with my sexuality and who I really am. We have been each other’s person for the past 7 years and that’s not going anywhere.

There are no hard feelings between us, just love.

So if you are one of our couples, take a deep breath! We are SO EXCITED to photograph your day as two best friends and want you to know that this truly changes nothing about how we will serve you, show up for you, and the experience you’ll get.
